Gualtieri Tamburrino's Obituary
Gualtieri Tamburrino, age 86, of Oakland, California, passed away Wednesday morning, July 29, 2015. He was the son of the late Damiano and Maria Tamburrino. Gualtieri was born in SS. Cosma e Damiano, Italy (Lazio region) and migrated to the United States after WWII with his parents, twin brother Elmo, and younger brother Benedetto.
In 1951, Gualtieri was inducted into the U. S. Army and served in the Korean War. He had the honor of being awarded two Bronze Service Stars for his loyal service in the armed forces. In 1954, he returned to Italy where he met and married his beloved wife, the late Civita Tamburrino. He worked as a Cabinet Maker for over 40 years until his retirement in 1988. Gualtieri enjoyed gardening and always made sure his family had plenty of homegrown tomatoes and vegetables to make fresh sauce. He loved spending time with his family and had a passion for animals. He especially loved birds, at one time he raised and cared for fourteen cockatoos. He truly enjoyed daily long walks throughout his Rockridge neighborhood and was very happy making small talk with neighbors and local storeowners.
He is preceded by his wife, Civita Tamburrino; is survived by his son, Damiano Tamburrino and daughter, Rosemary Ferreira; three grandchildren, Zach Tamburrino, Monica Sanders, and Felicia Flores; twin brother Elmo; and brother Benedetto; as well as many loving nieces, nephews and relatives.
Services for the Viewing, Rosary, & Funeral will be held at Chapel of the Chimes, 4499 Piedmont Avenue, Oakland, CA.
Viewing & Rosary: Thursday, August 6, 2015 between 4:00 – 8:00 pm
Funeral: Friday, August 7, 2015 at 10:00 am
