Gregory Norman Wees' Obituary
Gregory Norman “Big Guy” Wees
Greg passed away suddenly from Congestive Heart Failure complications on June 30, 2022, in Oakland, California, with his nephew Ian Jones by his side. Gregory was born July 23, 1951, in Richmond, California, to Norman Wees and Sophia “Marie” Benne. Growing up in the Bay Area, Las Vegas, and Kansas City, Greg had a passion for playing baseball, rebuilding and racing stock cars and bowling. In the late 1970s, Greg and his bowling team won the California State Bowling championship and held a record which was recently broken.
Greg followed in his father’s footsteps by working as an electrician out of IBEW 302 for most of his life until he was given the opportunity to work at IMTT as the Terminal Director of Maintenance and Electrical Engineering. While an electrician, Greg got into computers and built several, as well as became well versed in troubleshooting and designing systems for himself.
On December 3, 1989, Greg married Erin Kelleher in Oakland, California. They spent 32 years sharing interests and reconnecting with family members through Erin’s passion of genealogy. Greg was a friend to everyone he met; he was generous with his time. In 2020, Greg was diagnosed with cancer; through his determination to find a cure, Greg researched and followed a lifestyle of eating a caveman diet and walking 10,000 steps every day, Greg was able to lose over 135 pounds and live the best life ever.
Greg leaves behind his wife, his cousins and several nephews, nieces and many close friends.
