Grayce Dello Joio's Obituary
Grayce Dello Joio (94) died peacefully Friday, August 25 in Oakland, CA. Grayce was born to Jacob and Anna Baumgold on November 23, 1922 in New York City. As a young woman, Grayce was a ballet dancer, performing with 3 different companies including New York Ballet Theater. In 1942, she married composer Norman Dello Joio. During their 30 year marriage, she was instrumental in helping manage his successful career. After their divorce in 1972, Grayce became a successful Real Estate Broker. She moved to San Francisco in 1991, where she became Executive Director of Old First Concerts. She retired and moved to St Paul’s Towers in 2000. Cat-lover and foodie, Grayce was also an avid movie buff, who wrote on-line movie recommendations that attracted a solid and loyal following.
Grayce is survived by her daughter and daughter-in-law: Vicki Dello Joio and Sherry Mouser; her son and daughter-in-law: Justin and Marianne Dello Joio; her son and daughter-in-law: Norman and Jeannie Dello Joio; and her three grandchildren Daniela, Chiara and Nick.
A Memorial will be held on Sept 19 at 2:00 PM at St Paul’s Towers in Oakland.
