Glenn J. Wilpolt's Obituary
Glenn Wilpolt, aged 86 of Oakland passed away on December 12, 2015, in Oakland, Ca. after a brief illness, just four days short of his 87th birthday. Glenn was born in Kaukauna, Wisconsin on December 16, 1928, son of the late Richard and Margaret (Feller) Wilpolt. He graduated Kaukauna High School in 1946, and was Rally Master at the KHS 1966 Reunion.
Between Oct. 3, 1946 and Jan 28, 1948 he served in the US Army during the post WWII occupation force in Japan first in the 24th Infantry, but was transferred to MacArthur’s 8th Army Hdqtrs in Tokyo and found himself assigned as the News Editor for WVTR Armed Forces Radio in Tokyo. Returning to Wisconsin he attended University of Wisconsin at Madison and along with debate class, softball, boxing and working on the Yearbook, he was in various positions on the daily newspaper, The Daily Cardinal, including Advertising Manager in 1950 and the Board of Directors in 1952. He was proud to be a Badger and he followed their sports teams, as well as his beloved Green Bay Packers, right to the end.
On June 30, 1956 he married Teresa Schuster in Los Angeles, CA. and honeymooned in San Francisco. The family lived in Wisconsin and Illinois until 1968 when the call came to move to California. They have been faithful members of St. Theresa’s Catholic Church in Oakland since the first month they arrived in California. He was an insurance agent for Farmers Insurance for many years retiring in 1991. Glenn was an avid golfer and was a member of Sequoyah Country Club until just last year and spoke often of his 2 holes in one.
In June 2006 Glenn and Terry hosted a large family reunion at Long Lake in Bloomer, WI for their 50th Wedding Anniversary. Terry had been diagnosed with Parkinson’s in 1993 and was moved into Mercy Assisted Living in 2007. For the last 8 years, Glenn has faithfully visited Terry 6 days a week arriving before lunch and leaving just before dinnertime. They loved being together whether on a cruise or just at home.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Teresa, five children: Jay Wilpolt of San Diego, CA, Mark Wilpolt of Chico, CA, Carrie Wilpolt (Kent Springer) of Pepperell, MA., Matt Wilpolt of Oakland, CA and Andy (Angelica) Wilpolt of Concord, CA. One granddaughter, Lily Wilpolt of Chico, CA; Two sisters Carole Solie of Appleton, WI; Marge Carey of Cincinnati, OH; sister-in-law Phyliss Schuster of Hays, KS.;.a brother in law Richard Schuster of Stockton, NJ; and numerous nieces and nephews, as well as many extended family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, infant sister Lois, brothers and sisters in-law Riley Solie, Frank Carey; William Schuster, Fred Schuster, Gayle Schuster and Louis (Ruth) Schuster.
