Glen Everett Forbes' Obituary
FORBES, Glen Everett Age 69, died on October 22, 2010, in Sacramento, Calif. At his request, no funeral services will be held.Mr. Forbes was born November 23, 1940, in Seattle, Wash., to Gordon and Martha Forbes. He graduated from High School in Seattle. The family relocated to Sacramento where he received his Bachelor’s Degree in Music from CSU Sacramento, specializing in the French horn.In 1963, with his fellow Music major, William ”Bill” Snyder, Glen co-founded William Glen, the renowned Sacramento retail emporium which catered to loyal customers for 47 years. The first store at Town & Country Village featured candles and an interior decorating studio. The expanded store evolved over the years, to become one of America’s premier purveyors of fine gifts and gourmet products. Imported Christmas ornaments and decorations gradually grew into a second store, Christmas & More.Their business partnership was the fortuitous combination of business acumen, trend-setting taste level, merchandising magic and warm hospitality. The store was nationally recognized, receiving many industry awards. Glen retired in 1998, moving to Timber Cove on the Northern California coast where he hiked daily along ocean and woodland trails, enjoying his forest home.A lifelong connoisseur of music, design and the arts, Glen traveled extensively and collected broadly. His interests were wide-ranging, reflected in his numerous hobbies. A uniquely private and spiritual man, Glen will be remembered for his quiet manner, his generous heart, his love of music and his unerring eye for good design.Glen’s ashes will be interned at The Chapel of the Chimes in Oakland, Calif., near his family. He was preceded in death by his father Gordon Douglas Forbes, his mother Martha Slusher Forbes and his sister Barbara Louise Forbes. His business partner William ”Bill” Snyder passed away in 2009 and the venerable store, ”William Glen” will close at the end of 2010.Donations may be made in Glen’s name to the Sacramento SPCA.
