Gerald Walter's Obituary
Oakland resident Jerry Walter passed away quietly in his sleep in the early hours of Saturday, February 22 at the age of 75 after a long struggle with Parkinson’s disease & dementia. He was born in Los Angeles on October 17,1943 to parents Lida Ann Dimeo and Jesse Delmar Walter. Jerry graduated from the University of California Berkeley in 1966, receiving his Bachelors in Business. While attending Cal he played both football and Rugby and was a member of the 1967 rugby tour to Australia under the founding father of Cal Rugby “Doc” Hudson. He continued playing rugby for over fifteen years, first with the Olympic Club and then as one of the founding members of the Bay Area Touring Side (BATS).
Jerry spent most of his professional life as a real estate broker in the Bay Area. He is survived by his wife Kate, with whom he would have celebrated their 40th anniversary this September, and their daughter Samantha. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Jake Walter Scholarship Fund to support the aspirations of Bay Area youth who want to become first responders and firefighters. All donations can be made through the Random Acts website at www.ofrandomacts.org
