Georgia Ann Wilton's Obituary
Georgia Ann Wilton, longtime resident of San Francisco and later Oakland, went home to be with the Lord, surrounded by her devoted family, on Friday December 14, 2018. She was not only a beloved mother, grandmother, aunt and friend, but also a woman of dreams, ambitions and compassion for everyone. It has been said by friends that Georgia brought joy and light to all those that she touched. Georgia Ann (known to some as Ann) was born in Kilgore, Texas on June 8, 1930, to the union of Pearl and Andrew Taylor. She graduated from North Chapel High school, and attended Prairie View A & M, studying Business Administration. Georgia Ann migrated to California in 1950, where she met and subsequently married James Edward Wilton on November 2, 1951. He predeceased her in December 1981.
In her pre-retirement years, Georgia spent 30 years in education, serving at-risk youth in the San Francisco Unified School District. Near the time of her retirement from the SFUSD, Georgia was an avid sports fan, had season tickets to the Oakland Raiders, and decided that she wanted to work at the Oakland Coliseum.
She excitedly started working part-time in Guest Services at the Coliseum for the A’s and the Warriors, immediately after retiring. Georgia was passionate about all things involving sports. She could proudly have a coherent conversation with anyone regarding what was happening in the sports world, whether it was football, basketball, baseball, golf or tennis. However, her favorite sport was basketball, and her favorite team was the Golden State Warriors. Over her 23 years of service, she was a fan through thick or thin. She could proudly recite stats and other information about each player. Georgia was especially thrilled to serve her season ticket holders who sat on the floor in sections 114-115. They were her extended family and she felt obligated to protect them when other guests tried to occupy their seats.
Georgia is survived by five children and eight grandchildren. They include children; Carol Selby, Michael Wilton, Ronald (Carla) Wilton, Annette Wilton, and June (Christopher) McDaniels. Her grandchildren include Jamila Selby, Matthew Selby, Michaela Wilton, Megan Wilton, Riley Wilton, Christian Cole McDaniels, Alexa and Theron Wilton. Georgia is also survived by several nieces and nephews, and a special friend, Al Brock. Her one brother and two sisters proceeded her in death.
Funeral arrangements will be held at 11:00, January 2, 2019, at Parks Chapel AME at 476 34th Street, Oakland.
