George F. Kirby, Jr.May 23, 1925 – October 28, 2012George F. Kirby Jr., fondly known as “Buck” was born on May 23, 1925 to George F. Kirby, Sr. and Edna Viola Kirby and had an older sister, Colleen. He was born in Modesto, CA, and moved to Berkeley, CA when he was 5 years old where he was raised. He graduated from Berkeley High School. Buck loved all sports but excelled in basketball. After high school, he joined the U.S. Merchant Marines for WWII and shortly thereafter was called into the US Army to fight infantry in the Korean War. When he returned home, he went into the real estate business with his father and became a successful real estate broker and developer. In 1960, he married Kirsten Olsvold and raised their two children in Piedmont, CA. They remained married for 52 years.Buck was known as an easy-going, lovable guy with a great sense of humor. He loved to travel, and was interested in politics, sports, current events, pastrami sandwiches, sharing a glass of red wine and being with his family.Buck is survived by his wife, Kirsten O. Kirby, his son, Michael A. Kirby and daughter, Kari E. Kirby and two grandsons, Connor and Cole Kirby.
