General Leon Weatherspoon's Obituary
Elder General Leon Weatherspoon was born on January 6, 1962 in Palo Alto, California to the parents of the late Rosie Mae Harris Weatherspoon & the late George Weatherspoon, Jr. He was raised in San Francisco, California where he completed his education through San Francisco Unified District graduating from Woodrow Wilson High School in June 1980. He attained a Bachelor of Science degree in Business of Management from the University of Phoenix in April 2003 with high honors. General’s professional career led him into a journey into general office, service tech – manager, then as Global Executive Regional Manager for AT&T for 35 years of service.
Elder General Leon Weatherspoon loved the Lord as a young child. He grew up attending True Hope COGIC San Francisco, CA under the leadership of Dr. Arelious & Hazel Walker, where he accepted Christ and was Baptized with the Holy Ghost. He was known as “Leon” and he loved to sing and was known for playing the TAMBOURINE! He served in the New Generation Choir & Sanctuary Choir under the director of late Sis. Carol Bell who had impacted his compassion for singing praises to God. He sang with the Men’s Chorus, Revelation choir, Greater Emmanuel District Choir, True Fellowship District choir under director Ronnie A. Scott Sr., & Tania Walker Alexander. Leon often expressed his training from his home church and leader Dr. A. Walker & youth leader’s late Pastor Charles Bell & Elder Gus Stanford these men who mentor him to be a man of integrity and a leader he was in the body of Christ.
Leon later became a member at Love Center Ministries Oakland California in 1984 under the leadership of the late Bishop Walter L. Hawkins. Leon served in many capacities and especially the music ministry. Leon sung with the Love Center Young Adult Choir and the Love Center Choir for many years on recording and travelling. Leon could play the Tambourine along with Sis. Ronda Lomax and late Charles Jackson tossing across the church for the Lord. Leon loved his pastor and he loved his Church family. Leon was a quiet man and kept to himself and loved his friends Sis. Carol Hawkins, Dana Johnson, Bryant Drakes, Ronda Lomax, Eric Smith, Renard Branch, Leonard Conner & late Charles Jackson. Leon was a well dresser and cared for himself with respect and made sure he got respect. Leon’s compassion for music continued as he joined several community choirs such as: Dr. Helen Stephen Young Adult Choir of Northern Bay Area of the GWMA of Oakland for many years, Dr. Maggie Wincher & OICC Choir and Bro. Bryant Drakes & Union Baptist Church Choir. Leon loved Gospel Music and he loved to sing for the Lord. Everyone that knew him, loved him. There was nothing he wouldn’t do to help someone if he had a heart of love.
Elder General Leon Weatherspoon loved his family dearly and would do anything for his family along with him to be in church. General Leon Weatherspoon in 1998 join with him little brother Bishop R.A. Scott Sr., & late Mother Dorothy Hicks after much fasting and seeking God in prayer organized the Peter’s Rock Deliverance Church in Oakland California in their home with 10 members later the Church moved to 4739 Foothill Blvd and the church grew and God blessed the ministry. Elder General Weatherspoon would be in those shut in, morning & evening prayers, street services, door to door witness, food, jail, mission ministries. PRDC were known for having good church.
Elder General Leon Weatherspoon was called into the ministry that was the closest to his heart. He received his minister license in 2004 and received his Elder license from the Church of God in Christ International in 2007 by Prelate Bishop R.A. Scott Sr. Elder General Weatherspoon served as the Assistant Pastor at PRDC. In 2003 his mother the late Mother Rosie M. Weatherspoon accepted Christ and was baptized with Holy Ghost and then his sisters and family joined Peter’s Rock Church, his prayers were answered and he was one happy man. He often testified and praise God in the dance to see his nephews and sisters and mom in church and praising and working for the Lord. Elder General worked hard in the ministry at PRDC he prayed that the church be successful and grow and the glory of God will rest in the church and he put all his effort to see the pastor and church be successful. He loved his church and supported it in capacity, he served as a trainer and assistant in all auxiliaries, church, van driver, janitor, usher, Bishop adjutant, church administrator, choir members, counselor, teacher. Elder General gave his heart to PRDC and loved his Pastor and stood with him side by side. The members of PRDC gave him a name Elder “G” a man with a good heart by Mrs. Lyn Barnes and he approved it and liked it.
Elder “G” Weatherspoon transitioned peacefully surrounded by his brother Bishop R.A. Scott Sr., entering into rest on November 30, 2019. He was preceded in death by his parents Rosie M. Weatherspoon & George Weatherspoon; his brother and sister: Alfred Weatherspoon & Patricia Scott; and nephews: Scharod Fleming & Maurice Scott. He leaves to cherish his life, his brother Bishop Ronnie A. Scott Sr. of Orlando, Florida; Sisters: Everlean F. Ukaegbu of San Bruno, CA and Bernadette Wilson of Berkeley, CA; Brothers-in-law Pascal Ukaegbu & Torrey Walthour; Sister-in-law Sharon Weatherspoon – Baton, LA; Adopted Sisters: pastor Eunice Webb-Charlotte N.C. & Sis. Rosie Scott Starkvill, MS; Nieces: Aniyah Secrease, Sylvia Scott Stein & Angel Scott; Nephews: Tyrell K. Wilson, Jordan Weatherspoon, Ronnie Scott Jr., Atiba Scott, Lonnie Wright; Grandnieces Taylor Mae Wilson, Tierra M. Wilson. Very special cousins Violet Jackson of Pensacola, Florida and Margie Bangali of San Jose, CA, along with a host of cousins. He leaves to cherish his love his best friends Bryant Drakes, Ronda Lomax, Anthony Smith, Bishop Myrna Fuller, Rev. Eltyna McCree, Lynn Barnes, Leonard Connor, Dana Johnson, Sonja Wright and his spiritual sons & daughter: Elder Damon Edenburgh, Min. Jabari Hubbard, Emeritus Hunter, Joel Gibson, Elder Bobby Calloway, Dayana Calloway, and the Peter’s Rock Church Family, Love Center Ministries Family & True Hope Church Family, along with a host of family and friends.
