Fumiko Rodriguez-Berriz
November 20, 1923 – January 14, 2016
On the morning of January 14, 2016 at the age of 92, Mrs. Fumiko Rodriguez-Berriz died peacefully at Umenoki Gardens Senior Home in Union City. She was born November 20, 1923 in Yokohama, Japan and was a long-time resident of Alameda.
Fumiko worked in the publishing field in Japan, met her future husband Jose and immigrated to the United States in the 1950s. She retired from Sumitomo Bank in 1989.
Fumiko loved to garden, was artistically inclined and enjoyed traveling with her family and friends. She studied under Sensei Muramoto and played the koto for many years. She was an avid swimmer at Mariner Square Athletic Club. She received her AA in 1979 from the College of Alameda. At age 70, she learned to ski and enjoyed numerous trips to Tahoe. Her heart was open and full of adventure.
She is survived by her daughter Mari Lineberry, grandchildren Richard Berriz, Michael Berriz, Lisa Berriz-Dunn, Jennifer Romero, Jason Rodriguez-Berriz, Michael Lineberry and numerous great grandchildren, all of whom brought great joy to her later years.
