Frank J. Phillips, Jr.
11/3/42-6/29/16
Frank J. Phillips, Jr. passed away peacefully June 29, 2016. He was born in San Leandro, a second generation Californian, to Frank Sr. and Victoria Phillips. His early years were spent in San Leandro where he boxed at the San Leandro Boys Club. His passion for cars led to a career as an auto painter and proud union member. He loved Harley Davidsons and enjoyed riding. To keep busy in retirement, he worked at Safeway and was a member of the UFCW. Frank suffered a stroke but never let it slow him down. He lived at the Water’s Edge Lodge in Alameda for last 6 years. He maintained his independence traveling all over Alameda and San Leandro using his scooter, the bus and BART. He dressed sharp and wore a fedora.
Frank is survived by his children: Larry (Tracy) Phillips of Castro Valley, Joe (Susan) Phillips of Piedmont, Anna (David) Rae of San Leandro and Charla (Tammy) Liddle of Modesto. Grandchildren: Kristie, Christopher, Ella and Maddox and great-grandson Rein. Brothers: Gilbert, Richard and Michael. He will be missed by his dear friend, Annette Brille.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests a memorial to the American Heart Association or a charity of your choice.
Services will be held at the Chapel of the Chimes, 4499 Piedmont Ave., Oakland on Friday July 15 at 1pm.
