Frances Elizabeth McVeigh's Obituary
Frances Elizabeth McVeigh, a loving mother and wife, career hospital pharmacist and devoted civic volunteer, well known for her boundless energy and widest of smiles, died Sunday, November 18, 2001, after a brief illness culminating a five year battle. Born May 10, 1952, she was 49 at the time of her death. Frances was born in Fort William, Ontario, Canada. She was raised in Orillia , Ontario, Canada, moving to Toledo, Ohio, in 1966. After graduating from Sylvania High School in Toledo, she attended Purdue University, graduating from the school of pharmacy in 1974. There she was also a Boilermaker pep girl and a member of the Alpha Gamma Delta sorority. Frances excelled as a clinical hospital pharmacist, her entire career, working up to one month before her death. While working at the University of California Davis Medical Center in Sacramento, California, she became an Assistant Clinical Professor of Pharmacy for residents at the University of California San Francisco School of Pharmacy. It was also while working at UCDMC that she met and married Dr. Brian K. Walker in 1982. She worked last for the San Ramon Regional Medical Center from 1990-2001. She was a former member of the Indiana Society of Hospital Pharmacists and Sacramento Society of Hospital Pharmacists; and current member of the Diablo Society of Hospital Pharmacists, California Society of Hospital Pharmacists, American Society of Hospital Pharmacists and of the women’s professional pharmacy fraternity Kappa Epsilon. Her zest for life was evident in her civic volunteer work. She was active in the Alameda Contra Costa Medical Association Auxiliary II serving as their recording secretary, council president, on the scholarship committee, auxiliary president and the founder of their orthopedic metal implant bank for third world countries. Her loving persistent support for her two boys was unending as she was a room parent for both her sons every year through their elementary school years as well as a library volunteer. Her athleticism was evident on the golf course, tennis court or ski slope and she was called on to coach on son’s 4th grade basketball team. Frances is survived by her husband, Dr. Brian K. Walker, two sons Chase C. McVeigh-Walker and Easton C. McVeigh-Walker of Piedmont; sister Cynthia L. McVeigh, nephew Andrew H. Bryce and parents Hamilton G. McVeigh and Frances J. McVeigh of Davis; in-laws, nieces and nephews as follows: Dr. and Mrs. William H. Walker of Los Gatos; Carol, Gerald, Ian, Seth and Kansas Henderson of Portola Valley; William, Ana, Claudio, Trisha, Michele and Nicole Walker of Los Gatos; and Michael, Nancy, Colin and Dana Walker of Seattle, Washington. Friends and loved ones are invited to attend a Memorial Service at the Piedmont Community Church, 400 Highland Avenue, Piedmont, California, at 1:00 p.m. Monday, November 26, 2001.
