Felipe Constantino Robinson's Obituary
Felipe (Phil) C. Robinson, MD was born in the Panama Canal Zone on August 19, 1944 to Phillip C. and Roslyn B. Robinson. He moved to Brooklyn, NY as a child and graduated from Boys High. He went on to attend Pratt Institute where he received bachelors and Masters degrees in Engineering.
He attended medical school at the University of Florida, College of Medicine in Gainesville, Florida on a Navy scholarship. Afterwards he spent five years as a Navy medical officer with a deployment on the USS Wichita. After the Navy, he was awarded fellowships at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in Bethesda, MD, where he met and married his wife Audrey.
At the NIH, Phil studied Cardiology and Nuclear Cardiology. He was a pioneer in the use of the Positron Emission Tomographer (P.E.T.) scanner and contributed to over 25 published medical research papers. He was awarded additional fellowships at Georgetown University and taught at Howard University. He was also a founding member of the Association of Black Cardiologists. In the later part of his career he went into private practice consulting at hospitals and Cardiology groups throughout the Washington D.C. metropolitan area.
Phil was a dedicated physician spending much of his time at the bedside of his patients. He did find time to enjoy his favorite basketball and football teams –the Washington Bullets, the Oakland Raiders and the Florida Gators. He was happy to travel at almost any opportunity, especially to a seaside location where he could play golf. He enjoyed a variety of music from Motown to Gospel and was a regular movie goer and collector of electronics.
Left to mourn are his wife Audrey, his daughter Erron Al-Amin, son-in-la Scott Markham, grandchildren Nia and Andrew Markham, his brother Lindo (Leo) P. Robinson and wife Monica, and nephews Anthony and Michael Robinson.
