Ethelda S. Campbell's Obituary
Ethelda S. Campbell Dec. 28, 1919-May 29, 2013 Resident of Oakland On May 29, 2013, the Lord decided to reunite her with those she loved who had been called to Glory before her, including: her loving husband of 60 years, James R. Campbell and son Denis. Ethelda was born on Dec. 28, 1919 in New Orleans, LA to late Williams Waters and Susan Pierre Waters. She had one sister, the late Emelda Haltom (TeeTee). At a young age she and her family moved to California. She was a product of the Oakland Unified School District. She attended Prescott Elementary, Lowell Middle School, and was a graduate of Oakland Technical High School. She met her husband, James R. Campbell at a church function while he was serving in the Navy. They were married February 24, 1938. Of their marriage they had three children: James Raymond Jr., the late Denis William and Ethelda Kathleen (Kathy). Ethelda was a devoted homemaker and raised her own children while she cared for many others. Ethelda was lovingly known as “Nannie” to her seven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. She is survived by her two children: James R. Campbell, Jr. (Charlotte); Kathy Booker (Wendell); seven grandchildren, Kimberly Mott (Herbert); Denise Smith (Tilmon); Adonica Boyd; Sean Campbell (Dehlia); Brian Booker (Amber); Angela Comer (Thomas); and Ebony Campbell; 10 great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends. A celebration of her life will be held on Wed., June 5 at 2 p.m. at the Mountain View Cemetery, 5000 Piedmont Ave., Oakland CA.
