Esther Juliet Culliver

Esther Juliet (Culliver) Theofield was born just after midnight January 29, 1920 in Pass Christian, Mississippi. When she was six months old, she and her family moved to Oakland, California. She graduated from Oakland Technical High School and attended one year at San Francisco State College, renamed San Francisco State University in 1974. She married Theophilus Culliver, April 5, 1940, who preceded her in death and to this union were born two children. Her parents were Sidney (Jones) Theofield and Juliet (Payne) Theofield. Mrs. Culliver leaves to mourn her passing, daughter Juliet Esther (Culliver) Crutchfield, son-in-law Earnest Crutchfield, son James Sidney Culliver, and daughter-in-law Linda (Redd) Culliver. She leaves also grandchildren, Peter Crutchfield, Kimberly Jean (Culliver) Mowattt, and John Sidney Culliver, along with great-granddaughter Olivia Mowatt. Mrs. Culliver had a passion for life and liked spending time with her family. She enjoyed the music of Placido Domingo, Luciano Pavarotti, Louis Jordan, Bill Doggett, Count Basie, Jimmy Witherspoon, B .B. King, Joe Williams, Ella Fitzgerald, Duke Ellington, and Nate King Cole, often attending live performances. She loved to travel and attend social gatherings. Her hobbies included swimming, reading, bowling, lawn bowling, sewing, knitting, embroidering, and dancing. She was a skilled homemaker, an organized housekeeper, and devoted wife, possessing profound common sense. As a homemaker, she emphasized healthy eating and vigorous exercise. Swimming was considered a survival skill to master and fresh vegetables were prepared daily from the family garden. She was strong and resilient, facing health challenges with courage.
