Esther Tuazon Concepcion's Obituary
Our beloved Esther Tuazon Concepcion has left us. We know that her husband, the love of her life, Iluminado S. Concepcion, Sr., her beautiful infant daughter, Dimagmaliw, beloved grandson William Everett C Boggess and her handsome eldest son, Iluminado T. Concepcion, Jr. were all waiting to welcome her at Heaven’s gate.
Esther, affectionately known as “Oma”, was born in Pateros, Rizal, Philippines. She was the oldest of 9 children of Leoncio & MarthaTuazon. A legendary beauty, Esther, at 15, won the Miss Pateros title. At 17, she became Miss Santa, the Basketball Team Muse; at 18, Esther won Miss Secret 18; at 19, she was chosen as Miss Pagawaan nang Sapatos (Lady Shoe Maker). Her picture showing her riding in a large wooden shoe in a parade was a unique memory that she shared with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Esther married Iluminado “Minar” Concepcion in 1937. Minar was a Lieutenant in the Manila Police Department. They had seven children, Ma. Purisima, Iluminado Jr, Apolinario, Benifreada, Crisantemo, Dimagmaliw, Estrellita.
Esther and Minar emigrated to the United States in 1969. They eventually bought a house in Alameda, California in 1971. Their home became the hub of the Concepcion and Tuazon families, hosting many dinners, parties and celebrations. A place filled with great food, laughter and loud voices, as members of the family try to top each other’s recollections and memories of past get togethers. “Oma” Esther was our Queen Bee, who we would gather around with and happily soak in her smile, laughter and the naughty twinkle in her eye.
She is survived by her five children, six In-Laws, 16 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.
She leaves a large family who are saddened and yet hopeful that we too will one day be met by her, as she greets us with a large plate of food and asks “have you eaten?”
