Esperanza Magallanes' Obituary
Esperanza Magallanes Beltran, lovingly known as “Mama Pera”, passed away peacefully at the age of 87 at her home in Oakland on Tuesday, March 27, 2018. Esperanza was born on December 18, 1930 in Zacoalco de Torres, Jalisco to Fidel Beltran & Manuela Morgutia. From that marriage 7 children were born: Jesus, Magdalena, Maria, Consuelo, Victoria, Amparo, & Esperanza.
On July 25th 1953, she married the love of her life, Hilario Magallanes, & from that marriage they had 6 children: Jesus, Socorro, Carmen, Hilario Jr., Jose & Consuelo. She was also blessed with 11 grandchildren: Monica Leticia Garcia, Veronica Elizabeth, Luis Xavier, Alexander Jesse, Isabela Victoria, Daniel Hilario, Erica Cristina, Julia Maria, Jessica Esperanza, Kristinie Arielle, & Kimberly Angeline. She was especially blessed by a great grandson, Mateo Manuel, who was the apple of her eye.
Along with 4 of her children, she migrated to Oakland, California in June of 1967 for better opportunities & to join her husband already residing and working there. She was employed at Red Star Laundry for over 20 years, & despite not being fluent in english she was able to gain success in the real estate market.
She was also well known for her strong spirit & work ethic. Along with being an extraordinary wife, mother, grandmother & great grandmother, Esperanza’s talents & passions were many; she found joy in gardening, singing, cooking, & recycling. Esperanza was also an active member of St. Bernard’s Catholic Church for over 30 years, & regularly attended mass. In December her health declined until passing in late March 2018. Our beloved Mama Pera will be dearly missed by all her family & friends, but we will treasure her memory forever.
