Eric V. Stephens, Sr.'s Obituary
Eric V. Stephens, Sr. was born August 6, 1957 to the parents of Willie (deceased) and Louise Stephens. He passed away peacefully on 9/25/19 in Oakland, Ca, at the age of 62. Eric accepted the Lord Jesus Christ and was baptized at Union Baptist Church in Oakland, where he became a member of the usher board.
He grew up in Oakland and attended Durant Elementary, Hoover Junior High and McClymonds High School. He also continued his education in computer science. In pursuit of his Associates Degree he obtained several Certificates of Achievements for Writing; Wordperfect; Advanced Wordperfect; Computer Literacy; Construction Foundation Skills Workshop Series; and the ABE Program.
Eric had many trade skills. He drove cross-country for several trucking companies during his working career, including Western truck driving school were he also taught young students to drive. He also became a proud owner/operator of his own 18 wheeler.
He enjoyed watching sports, with his favorites being the San Francisco Giants (baseball), the 49ers (football) and the Warriors (basketball). He also enjoyed playing dominoes with family and friends and games on his play station, a kid at heart. Lets also not forget he was the “king of BBQ” on the pit. He enjoyed and obtained information by watching programs like Animal Planet, National Geographic, and History Channel.
Eric cherished the relationships he had developed among his neighbors, friends and with the community. He treasured the long lasting relationships he had with his “ride or die” friend of 40+ years Richard Brown (Big Rick) and others. Eric had style, he had flare, Eric was a true debonair.
Eric is survived by his loving mother Louise Stephens, of Oakland; sister Rachelle Stephens; brother Mark Stephens (wife Eunice); niece Lousia Jackson. He leaves to cherish his memory Vernell Poynter, mother of their two children, Erin Nicole Stephens and Eric Von Stephens Jr. of Oakland; two uncles Gregory Perkins and Roderick Perkins; aunt Betty Perkins; and a host of other family members and friends. He will truly and wholeheartedly be missed!
