Elna Dillon's Obituary
Elna Dillon was born June 19, 1940 in Memphis, Tennessee, and passed away on October 23, 2019 in San Francisco, California. She was the fifth child of Alonzo and Ardie Mae Dillon. Elna grew up in Webster Groves, Missouri and was baptized at Nazarene Baptist Church. She attended Webster Groves High School, and after graduation married Fred D. Allen, Jr. Their union produced two sons, Kerwin and Fred III. Elna relocated to the San Francisco in 1963 where she attended nursing school. After graduating from the program, Elna worked for over 35 years as a Licensed Vocational Nurse at several hospitals throughout San Francisco, with her longest tenure being at Mount Zion Hospital (now UCSF Medical Center). Elna lived nearly 50 years in the Western Addition neighborhood of San Francisco where she loved the warm weather and the close proximity to the busy downtown.
In her spare time, she enjoyed watching her beloved San Francisco 49ers, and was a season ticket holder at Kezar Stadium and Candlestick Park in the 60’s and 70’s. She loved listening to soul, jazz, and R&B music, and at one time boasted a huge record collection. Elna was an avid bid Whist player, and often hosted card parties where all her friends would play into the wee hours of the morning. Later in life, she belonged to several small card clubs.
Elna was predeceased by her parents, her youngest son Fred Allen III, her older sister Fannye Houston, and her older brothers, Elce and George.
Elna leaves to cherished memory son Kerwin Allen (Lisa) of Alameda, California and granddaughter Sydney of Brisbane, California; siblings Edna Roach (Hilra) of Union City, Georgia, Thomas Dillon (Glenda) of Stockton, California, Deborah Harvey of Indianapolis, Indiana, Brenda Reed of Rantoul, Illinois, and a host of beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
