ELIZABETH FERNE SHEPPARD's Obituary
A thing of beauty is a joy forever. Elizabeth, “Beth”, or “Bett” crossed over peacefully in the evening of May 14th, 2003 at the age of 87 years young.Bett was born in Oakland with a green thumb extraordinaire. Her home was called the ‘Garden of Eden’. Every living thing thrived under her loving care. She touched many lives with her inner beauty, kindness, joy of life, insights and compassion. Bett proudly proclaimed she was an endangered species, A thing of beauty is a joy forever. Bett proudly proclaimed she was an endangered species, a native Californian. She had lived in both Alameda and Contra Costa Counties all her life. Bett graduated from U.C. Berkeley with a Master’s in Bacteriology. She belonged to the 5 gallon blood donation club. Bett was a long time employee of the Contra Costa Times.Home is where the heart is. Now Bett is home in the real Garden of Eden. Bett will be greatly missed by her daughter Suzanne La Bare, her brother and sister-in-law, Louis and Elena Fracchia, her nieces and nephews Helena Gualtierie, Carlotta Jamison, Peter Fracchia, Rick La Bare, her cousins Jackie Williams and Claire Jones, her cat Posie and many friends and acquaintances. Her husband, Gerald R. Sheppard, preceded her passing.In lieu of flowers or a memorial service, the family prefers donations to the American Cancer Society, or plant a tree or sow wildflowers in her memory a native Californian.
