Eleanor L. Spells' Obituary
Mrs. Eleanor Long Spells passed away at home, in peace, and in the loving hands of her Daughter, Cordetta Spells, of Fairfield, California. The Lord came for her on Saturday, November 10, 2018, at 4:35 pm., at the blessed age of 96.
Eleanor asked the Lord Jesus Christ into her heart at an early age, and was the 2nd oldest child of 12 born to Walter, and Ada James Long, on May 1,1922, in Millbrook, Alabama. Though she graduated from Alabama State University, and received her Master’s in Education from Tuskegee University, Eleanor began her teaching career in the 9th grade instructing younger students in her school, which was common in African American families at that time. She was very loving, extremely selfless, and generous. As she continued her career, she help to educate her siblings, as well as made sure her parents were provided for before herself.
From , Alabama, to Marin County, California, Eleanor engaged in her life long passion enriching the lives of generations of young people over her 40 plus year teaching Career. Many, who followed her to her last day.
She married 2nd Generation Tuskegee Airman, Major Curnel C. Spells, on December 29, 1952 in Texas, and was preceded in death by him on nearly the same day 15 years prior, November 12, 2003, and her oldest child of 2 daughters born to them, Angela Martin, Retired San Francisco Police Sergeant, on January 21, 2016.
Eleanor is survived by her Daughter, Cordetta Spells (Ruta), of Fairfield, CA., and 4, Grandchildren: Sarah Martin (Flores) of Washington State, Amanda C. Martin of Daly City, CA., along with Sidney and Sean Ruta of Fairfield, CA. She also leaves behind her Sisters Jewel Garth, of Rialto, CA, Louise Jones, of Millbrook, Alabama, Mary Alyce Long, of East Point, Georgia, and a host of Neices, Nephews, friends, and Relatives across the country.
We have been blessed. She is missed.
