Eleanor “Nell” Pursel
Eleanor “Nell” Jane Pursel passed away peacefully at her home in St. Helena, CA on
October 16th, 2024. She was surrounded by her loving family and her devoted furry companion,
Ellie.
Nell was born on January 15th, 1937 in Manhattan, NY to Fred & Jane Wigg. Early on, the
family relocated to Rochester, NY to be near extended family. After graduation she followed her
high school sweetheart, Bill McLaughlin to the San Francisco Bay area where they married and
raised their family. Although they eventually divorced, Nell was fortunate to find a second
chance at love when she met and married Marv Pursel.
Throughout her life she appreciated the beauty in all things and never let a moment or
occasion go by without making it beautiful and special for everyone around her. It was her
family and friends that gave her the most joy. But it can’t go without saying that she took
immense pleasure in all thing’s nature; plants, animals and simply being outdoors. When it
came to family and friends, no life event, good or bad ever passed without receiving a hand‐
written card. She truly was concerned for the well‐being of others.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Marv and grand‐son, Robert. She is survived
by her daughters, Anne (Richelle), Kate (Richard), her grand‐daughter, Alicia (Eddie), sisters
Anne, Julie (Carmen), and many beloved nieces and nephews.
