Ekow T. Archer's Obituary
Ekow Tufu-Selorm Archer was born in New Haven, CT at the Yale New Haven Hospital on December 21, 2006 to Ekow and Elikem Archer. The first of two boys, Tufu came into this world with the signature smile and bright eyes we would all come to know and love. He spent his Pre-K years at JumpStart in Stamford, CT - where he was loved and supported in his early childhood development. Tufu then continued his formal education at St Vincent’s School in Trumbull, CT. At St. V’s as we affectionately called it, Tufu was surrounded by a supportive and encouraging school team who believed in his potential and worked tirelessly to ensure that Tufu was reaching his fullest potential. Tufu loved water therapy and he was so peaceful in the water that he’d sometimes fall asleep! He enthusiastically participated in physical, speech and occupational therapy as well. Everyone was always struck by how hard he worked - and the big smile he had when his efforts paid off. Tufu was resilient and persistent. The family moved to Alameda, California in 2016 when Tufu was nine. He went to Edison Elementary for fifth grade and it’s there he met his best friend Gen. From Edison, Tufu spent three years at Wood Middle School with his favorite teacher Holly Singh, wonderful service providers like Cami Simms, and paraprofessional Seca - who all believed in his potential and worked hard to ensure he had access to appropriate education. He also made a lot of friends as his light and love shone brightly in the classroom and the Special Day Class community. Tufu was in his freshman year at Alameda High School until June 1, 2021.Tufu loved music - Michael Jackson being his favorite. He enjoyed his daily walks and was happy to watch people and share in the constancy and beauty of life. He was a traveler- visiting many states: New York, Illinois, Minnesota, Washington DC, Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Florida - and taking two trips to Ghana. He was a presence and a connecting force - drawing everyone he met in with his beautiful eyes and smile.Tufu leaves behind his mom, dad, brother, uncles, aunties, Grandparents and friends who greatly love him. A bright light - he will be missed.
