Edward Ferdinand Petschauer's Obituary
EDWARD "BERGIE" FERDINAND PETSCHAUER - Age 98. Passed peacefully at his home on January 13th, 2011, after a long and full life. Born on May 24, 1912, he was a native and long-time resident of Oakland, California. Loving husband of 70 years to Elaine (Dragoni) Petschauer. Beloved father to Bonnie Martinez of San Leandro; grandfather to Christina Sands and her husband Victor, great-grandfather to Cherne Haskell and her husband Ryan, and Alaina Banks and her husband Keith; great-great grandfather to Logan and Braden Haskell and Hailee Banks; brother-in-law to Will and Pete Dragoni; and uncle and cousin to many. Preceded in death by parents Stephen and Johanna Petschauer; siblings Rudolph, Josephine, Frank, Marie, Alois, Ann, Claire, George, Helen, and William; and grandson Michael Martinez. As a young boy Mr. Petschauer worked the family's dairy and nursery and attended St. Elizabeth's. He grew to become a lifelong auto enthusiast and owned his own racing midget, #160. He was a founding member of the Bay City Racing Association and a long-standing member of the Oakland Auto Club and Operating Engineers #3 union. He heartily enjoyed visiting friends and family, especially the Montana cousins. The family wishes to extend gratitude to Ed and Sally Perry for their help and support, in particular these last few years. Friends and family are invited to attend a Memorial Service at Piedmont's Chapel of the Chimes on January 29th at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family asks donations be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital or any favorite charity.
