I first met Dorothy in the early 90's when I moved into the townhouse apartment next door to her. I had two babies in diapers at the time and was going through perhaps the worst time of my life. I had partially chosen this place over others because I had peeked through Dorothy's kitchen window. One could see all the way to the little back patio where she had a beautiful flower box garden. I wanted that too.I was just moving in, we had a truck in the driveway unloading furniture when Dorothy came walking up the driveway and she said…"Oh, you have children"… in a way that I interpreted at the time to mean she really hated children. My heart sank.I couldn't have been more wrong. She loved children. At that time she was getting ready to welcome her first grandchild, Brigette, into the world. She was so very excited and anxious to meet this new baby!My boys loved to go to Dorothy's house and see what kind of fruit she had on the table or what kind of candy she had in her never-empty candy dish. I couldn't have asked for a better neighbor and friend.Rest in peace Dorothy. You are sorely missed.Patti PetersonAlameda, CAJuly 2016
