We are the Lam–Wong family from the Netherlands, forever connected to Uncle Don by a thread of family history that spans continents and generations. Our grandfather (on our mother’s side) and Uncle Don’s mother were respectively (3rd) brother and (2nd elder) sister—making our mother and Uncle Don cousins, and our families woven together long before any of us were born. Through the generosity and filial devotion of Uncle Don’s mother, who cared for her two brothers in China, our parents were able to build a new life—first in Hong Kong and eventually in the Netherlands. Because of her, and because of this shared lineage, Uncle Don’s family has held a special place in ours for decades.
Despite being separated by an ocean, we built and maintained a bond with Uncle Don, Auntie Joyce, and their children that was warm, natural, and deeply genuine. Uncle Don had a gift for making people feel at home—through his quick wit, his easy humor, his generosity, his genuine kindness, and, of course, his joyful enthusiasm for good food……especially when ice cream was involved 😉!
Over the years, our paths crossed in different corners of the world—moments in which old family ties were rekindled and new memories were made. These shared moments—filled with laughter, stories, and meals—have become treasures we now hold even closer.
We are profoundly grateful to have had Uncle Don in our lives. He made our world brighter and reminded us, through his actions and his spirit, of what “family” truly means.
He will be deeply missed, yet we will continue to celebrate his life in the many memories he leaves behind—memories we will cherish always,…
