Shirley Nelson Pickett
I have known Diane all of my life. We were next door neighbors in Oakland. Our families were close, and I considered Diane to be my big sister.
I remember sitting with Diane when she ironed. This was her "household job" for which she made extra money. We would talk about just about everything...well I was 8 years younger...so maybe not about everything.
We remained close throughout the years even though I moved to the East Coast in 1978. We chatted on the phone, and I always looked forward to her Birthday Call...hearing her peppy voice and listening to Stevie Wonder was a highlight of my day. I will miss that...and to say I will miss her is an understatement! Diane will always be close to my heart.
My deepest condolences to Ghanya. The two of you had such a special bond. What a gift!
