We are so sad to belatedly hear of Denis's passing. We lived next door in Oakland for several years, and as first time home-owners we really couldn't have asked for a more amazing, sweet, friendly neighbor! We were fixing up our house and back yard, and he was an endless source of helpful advice (and lending of tools), and he was endlessly patient with me as I learned the basics of home maintenance and landscaping.
Our kids were tiny back then, and he was so kind and wonderfull with them, as he was with everyone on the block. He was also so incredibly proud of his daughters, and loved them so much.
We have since moved away, but I still think of Denis often as I'm working on our house using some basic skill he passed on to me.

I am so saddened to hear of his passing. I loved him like a dad. I worked for him for years and he was the best guy ever to work for. We all had a great time together. So many great memories. Blessings to you dear Denis

Denis was complicated. He loved fiercely, was loyal, almost to a fault and would do anything for anyone if he was able to, but you didn’t ever want to find yourself on his bad side. He taught me about honor, how to bait a hook and how to show up for your friends. I will miss him forever!

This is sad. I knew Denis for a long time through a friend. In our younger day’s we went to a club in Oakland. It was a former law office. We danced and drank too much, and had a great time. He was also my gardener for a few years. He was systematic and loved cutting and trimming my flowers. He would tell me to pick a spot and work from there. I would then see the progress. Alas, I am not a systematic person. I would move around and not see the progress I wanted. He did teach me a lot. I think working with him helped my way of gardening. He was a great man. We used to go to San Francisco and stop by his company to see if we could get him to have lunch. Sometimes he would. It was a lot of fun. I will not forget those days. I send my condolences to his family and friends. He loved those girls very much. Denis, you are with three of my very good friends at the chapel of the chimes. I hope your souls will play together in this mysterious place. Love you.

Denis and I met in kindergarten at Lakeview school in Oakland. We went together to Oakland High and even Chinese school. I had known him the longest of any of my friends.

When it came time for the Oakland High 50-year reunion, he was there to help with the memory book. I could always count on him. I will miss him.

Denis loved cars, fishing, and art. He owned and cherished his Morgan for years. His sister Timalyn and I graduated from Oakland High School the same year. Our fathers were friends.
