Delores Smith's Obituary
Delores Smith, affectionately known as Dee, was the first-born child to Leo Jones Sr. and Ida Jones on December 2, 1929, in New Orleans, LA. Her birth was followed by five brothers and one sister. She confessed to Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age and was baptized by the late Rev. M. Bouls at Second Zion Missionary Baptist Church # 2 in New Orleans LA. She was active in the young adult choir when she discovered her passion for singing. She attended and graduation from Booker T. Washington high School in New Orleans LA. After graduating she then decided to move to Alameda, CA to live with her uncle David and Aunt Viola Scott to pursue better opportunities.
During one of her many frequent visits with her grandmother Ora Lee Jones who lived in San Fransico, CA she was introduced to Solomon Smith "Smitty", and they were joined in holy matrimony on March 15, 1955, at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Oakland, CA.
Smitty and Dee were anxious about wanting to have children so much so that after a couple of years they began to consider adoption. Instead, nature interceded, and God blessed them with Cathy D. Smith, daughter, there first-born child. XX years later God blessed their union with Teresa M. Smith.
Dolores found her church home First Friendship Institutional Baptist Church in San Francisco, CA under the Pastorate of REV. E. L. Evans and REV. Floyd W. Trimmel. She participated in many church hospitality committees and a host of church functions. She was a committed and loyal employee for The National Archives and Records Center in San Bruno, CA for 30 years + where she retired.
Delores had an extensive family and social life in which she enjoyed attending parties, playing cards, traveling, bargain shopping and dancing, especially in the New Orleans 2nd Lime Dance.
Delores Smith was preceded in death by Solomon Smith, husband, Teresa M. Smith, Daughter. Ida Jones, Mother and Leo Jones, Father, Leo Jr "Brother", James "JC", Nolan, Valco and Raymond Jones, her five brothers.
Left to Cherish her memories are Cathy D. Smith, her loving Daughter; Dianne P. Jones, Sister; Learlene Wright, Very Near and Dear First Cousin; Jacqulin Cooper, Goddaughter; Verna Buncum, Dear Special Friend, Eight Nieces: Robin, Donna, Lynette and Valerie Jones, Shonta Jackson, Patricia, Rachelle and Renika Jones. Five Nephews: James Jones Jr., Raynould Jones, Joseph Olidge-Jones, David Philportt and Reinaldo Jones. There are a large number of family, friends and anyone whose hearts were touched by Delores Smith
