David Michael George's Obituary
David Michael George, born on August 21, 1958, in Portland, Oregon died in his home in the Oakland Hills on February 21, 2025. He was the beloved husband of Nancy Pede for 38 years.
David was a shining light to all of us who knew him. His life on earth was one marked by love, compassion, humor, music and a great passion for nature.
David always said that the highlight of his life and the best thing he ever did was to marry his wife, Nancy. They were each other’s soulmates and many of his passions involved Nancy. Among other interests, they played music, traveled, hiked, camped, explored nature and studied Spanish together.
His enthusiasm and love for nature, especially birds, was infectious. He brought great curiosity and intense appreciation for the wonders of the natural world, and loved to share this. He guided bird walks for the Audobon Society, volunteered at a wildlife sanctuary and acted as a community educator, bringing his knowledge of different species of local birds and animals to many.
David worked for many years as a computer programmer. His personal interest in how the living environment worked led him to go back to school to get a second Bachelor’s degree in biology. This led him to work in the Biotech industry for the last years of his career.
David loved music, rock climbing, camping, hiking, studying Spanish and also became a pilot for flying small airplanes. He had some wonderful travel and adventure in his life, which had a great impact on him.
David is survived by his wife Nancy and his extended family, Julie, Tom, Danny and Andy Tobin. Along with the Tobins, David was very connected to special friends and others, creating a community of care.
David’s mother Rita George, father Donald George, and brother Andrew pre-deceased him. His fondest memories of his family were the times when they lived in or traveled to England, where his parents were born. As a young boy, these times were also important because he got to enjoy the relationships with his grandparents.
Unfortunately, quite a few years of David’s life were affected by his struggles with chronic pain. To his credit, he lived his life as fully as possible until his last years when he was unable to function well because of this medical condition. He fought valiantly and with grace, but finally lost this difficult battle.
A Celebration of Life service to honor David’s life will be held later this year on a date yet to be determined.
Although David's physical presence may no longer grace our lives, his gentle spirit and loving nature will linger in our hearts.
