David Calvin Gee's Obituary
David Calvin Gee passed away peacefully at his home in the care of his loving family on September 17, 2016 at the age of 91. He is survived by his adoring wife Marlena, daughter Julia, son Bradford, daughter-in-law Evelyn, and grandsons, Calvin and Randall. He was predeceased by siblings “Sis,” Jimmie, and George and is survived by younger sister Betty Lowe of El Cerrito.
He was born in the farming community of Reedley, California. At age 18, he served in the US Army during World War II. After the war, he attended and then graduated from the University of California Berkeley (Golden Bears) in 1950. He majored in civil engineering and joined the California Department of Transportation (CalTrans) shortly thereafter, specializing in highway bridge construction for most of his nearly 40-year career. After retiring from CalTrans, David consulted at Mark Thomas Co, Bissel & Karn and Francis Construction.
Services will take place at Chapel of the Chimes, 4499 Piedmont Avenue, Oakland, California. Visitation will be Thursday, October 6th from 4-8 pm. A formal service will take place on Friday, October 7th, 11:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the San Francisco Opera Association, San Francisco Symphony or the San Francisco Asian Art Museum.
