Daphne Wyatt's Obituary
The Life Journey of Daphne Wyatt
On December 26th, 1926, Daphne Adams was born to Evie and Alice Adams in Summerville, GA. Daphne attended Menlo School in Chattooga County from kindergarten through 12th grade. She played high school basketball as a shooting guard. During her spare time, she babysat The Woodard Boys, maintaining contact with them until her passing. She met her late husband, Oscar Wyatt, in Summerville, GA, and they later got married. From their union, they had a daughter named Sandra Wyatt. In 1954, the couple and Sandra moved to West Oakland, CA. In 1955, they welcomed their second child, Melony Wyatt, and in 1957, their son, Michael Wyatt, was born.
In 1960, the family moved from West Oakland to North Oakland after purchasing a home. Sadly, in 1968, Oscar Wyatt passed away at the age of 49. Daphne continued raising her children and never remarried. She did light housekeeping work to support her family. Daphne gave her life to Christ at an early age and later joined First AME in Oakland on January 1, 1989. She sold her home in North Oakland in 2005.
Daphne, affectionately known as Mrs. Wyatt, enjoyed the finer things in life. She drove a 1968 Cadillac until she sold it in 2020. Every year for her birthday, she celebrated at Cache Creek Casino and Resort in Brooks, CA. Mrs. Wyatt was truly independent and always kept herself well-groomed. In fact, she had a hair appointment scheduled the Monday she fell ill. She enjoyed shopping at Macy’s and dining at the Cheesecake Factory and Fenton’s Ice Creamery.
Daphne is preceded in death by her parents, Evie and Alice Adams, her brothers Evie Jr. and Joseph, her sister Alice, and her beloved son-in-law, Kenneth Moore. She leaves behind her daughters Sandra and Melony, and her son Michael. She is also survived by her granddaughters Lanada Reed (spouse: Murad), Kreshenda Jenkins, and Kalila Moore; her grandson Sean Jenkins; and her great-grandchildren Julian and Johanna Reed. Her godson, Anthony Hampton, and close friends Rev. Dr. Ernest L. Jackson (friend for 72 years), Christopher Perryman, Jeff Mihaly, Alvin Burns, and Perry and Beverly Scott also mourn her loss, along with a host of family and friends. Special thanks to the Kaiser Permanente Oakland Hospice Team and caregivers Kalila Moore, Melony Moore, Sherry McGhee, and Beverly Scott.
