I attended many of Professor Walker's lectures over several courses as a student at uc davis between 1995-1998. I always intended to go back to pay him a visit and thank him for the impact he had on my thinking and worldview, and quite often I thought of him through the years. Unfortunately, that visit never happened. Opportunities not seized fall by the wayside and cripple one's mind with regret. Rest peacefully, Professor. I'll see you again όταν θα είναι η σειρά μου.

Possibly the most wonderful and inspirational teacher and Professor I have ever encountered. I met Clarence at age 19 at Wesleyan University and in many ways Clarence Walker changed my life, and very much for the better. I hope he is still questioning authority and the norms of the comfortable wherever he is now. They had better watch out !!

Clarence and I were colleagues at Wesleyan University for only a few years back in the 1980s, but we remained fast friends long after we each departed for other jobs. We spoke often by phone, and Clarence stayed chez Rosenberg whenever he was in New York City. A great cook and trusted confidante, Clarence mentored both my sons through adolescence and beyond. We will all miss his hearty laugh, wise counsel, and culinary wonders.

Clarence was our neighbor for twenty years. A genial host and a master raconteur, his stories of academic life and his childhood in Oakland and Texas, the latter segregated at the time, were full of color and detail. How he loved to shock!
His hospitality was legendary. His table always set with fresh linen, and copious glasses of wine; gumbo, pork, and seafood were his favorite menu items, as, thanks to his stepmother, he was an excellent cook.

We will miss Clarence's sense of humour, his generosity and tales of American life.

Clarence and I were colleagues (I was in Sociology) and he was the most delightful and funny person at UCDavis. We often went out for lunch, getting BLTs, and discussed the joys of bacon. He will be missed. I am so sorry that I cannot attend the funeral. My condolences to his family whom I met at his retirement party---his brother and niece and others. May his memory be for a blessing.
