Obituary for Clarence “Clay” E. Anderson
Clarence “Clay” Edward Anderson was born on October 17th, 1942 in New Orleans, Louisiana. He was the third born of eleven siblings. His parents, Rev. Richard Anderson, Sr. and Lucinda JoAnne Anderson, preceded him in Glory.
As a child, Clarence was quiet, creative, and very independent. Even though loved his mother and father, he had a nanny in New Orleans, Ms. Babe, an ex-slave. He was completely devoted to her.
He graduated from McClymonds High School in Oakland, CA. After graduation, he joined the Armed Forces. He received an Honorable Discharge and used his GI loan to attend college. He was accepted at San Francisco State University where he majored in Cinematography and Photography. He produced several short films. He traveled the world, including North Africa, to complete his degrees. He obtained a Bachelors of Arts and Masters of Arts.
Clarence has a son, Jason Anderson, from his former wife Marjorie Lofton Anderson of Richmond, CA. Jason “Shake” Anderson is most known as a candidate for the office of Mayor of Oakland, in which he received 16,000 votes.
Clarence was best known for his kindness. He enjoyed his life, family, and career. He was a peacemaker and diplomat. He was an avid reader and wrote several novels.
Clarence Anderson was preceded in death by his mother and father; his brother, Bobby Joe Anderson; his nephew, Jamie Sanders; his brother, Richard “Pool” Anderson, Jr.; and his brother, Edwarn Anderson.
is survived by his son, Jason Anderson; sisters, Dorothy Mae Armstrong (husband, William Armstrong, Sr.), Aurea Lewis, Antwanette Ferrell, Dr. Sheila Quintana (husband, Jerry Quintana) and Robin Harvey (husband, Mark Harvey); brothers, Don Anderson, Ray Anderson (wife, Valentina Anderson); along with several nephews, great-nephews, nieces, and great-nieces.

In speaking with Dorothy Mae and William Armstrong, they stated in remembrance of Clarence, “He always wanted to join the group and become a Temptation. He did believe that he looked as good as “Cassius Clay” (Mohammed Ali), so he changed his name from Clarence to Clay.”
