Walnut Creek - Chuck Woon Lau, a long time resident of Walnut Creek, California, passed away on Friday, February 23,2024 with his family by his side. He was ninety-years-old
Chuck was born in Toisan, Canton China to his parents Sun Lau and Kam Choi Lam. He moved from China to Hong Kong when he was a teenager and settled in Lima Peru where he established roots. In 1972, he and his family immigrated to Northern California. In pursuit of the American Dream, he worked in the restaurant industry and ultimately achieved his goal of owning his own Chinese restaurant, Sun Sun Garden. For 32 years, his family business provided happiness and satisfaction to the East Bay community.
While being a successful businessman, his proudest accomplishment was his family. He advocated the importance of familial unity and support. He enjoyed getting together on Monday evenings with his family for home cooked meals and the occasional glass of good wine.
Chuck is survived by his wife of over 65 years, Chiu Kun, his children, Maria (Rene'), Jose, Dina (James), Carmen, and Fernando (Randy); his grandchildren, Kimberly, Andrew, Sophia, Joey, Simon, and Julia; his brother Felix (Donna), his sister Rosario Lau de Lopez (deceased), and several nieces and nephews.
