Christopher Blake Sudat's Obituary
Christopher Blake Sudat was born on Memorial Day in 1983 (May 30) to Laurna Mary Vianney Sudat and Richard Vernon Scott III at David Grant Medical Center on Travis Air Force Base (AFB) in California. He showed his independence early on when he waited an hour and two minutes after his identical twin brother Brandon was born to make his appearance! He was known as Blake during his early childhood and chose Chris as his preferred name during adolescence and adulthood.
Chris spent his early years with his brother Brandon and mother Laurna on Travis AFB where they had the freedom and safety of exploring the neighborhood. They also spent many summers in New York with their grandmother Marie Sudat and uncles Jacob James, Marlon Soudatt, and Tony Soudatt. Chris developed a love for media and for comic books, and spent countless hours watching TV with Brandon and reciting parts of well-loved shows and movies. Chris and Brandon also formed a strong bond with family friend Mike Marquez, and the Marquez house in Vacaville became a second home to them. The three boys could be often found playing video games, watching (and rewatching) movies and TV, eating, and laughing together. The family moved off-base in 1992 to a house in Suisun City, California, which remained home to both Chris and his mother Laurna into his adulthood.
As an adult, Chris valued his independence and was adept at getting around on his bicycle and via public transportation. He could be both very reserved and unexpectedly outgoing, and made many connections during his daily routines, such as at his workplace and at Suisun City’s local comic book store. He also liked to share funny online clips with friends and family. He was an artist and could often be found bent over his sketchbook, thoughtfully crafting or refining his newest drawing. He liked to take day trips to various places, especially San Francisco’s Japantown, and took longer trips to comic book conventions and to other events. San Diego’s Comic Con was a yearly event that he looked forward to and planned for far in advance. Chris showed his deep caring for his family and loved ones through actions, such as by making his mother food and always bringing gifts from his trips for his nieces Laurna and Eleanor and nephew Felix. His macaroni and cheese was eagerly anticipated each Thanksgiving by his and his sister-in-law’s family, and he always made extra so there was sure to be enough for everyone.
Chris was bicycling home from work on Wednesday, December 28, 2022 at 5:22 PM when his life’s story was abruptly ended by a drunk driver. He was 39 years old. He is survived by his parents, his brother, his two nieces and one nephew, and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. His loved ones will remember him always in many small and large ways, and mourn the future they will not get to discover together.
