Christopher Devereaux's Obituary
Christopher Allen Devereaux, Sr. was born May 4th, 1972, in Oakland, California to Laverne and Josie Mae (Devereaux) Gillespie. Chris later gained 3 sisters, Shawnese, Nicole, and Allison. Chris professed his belief in Christ at a young age. At age 11 he was baptized by Reverend Collins of Greater New Hope Baptist Church, in Reno, Nevada and then rededicated as an adult. He was able to live in Nevada, Texas, and California throughout his childhood. In 1985 Chris asked to move back to Oakland with his maternal grandparents Luther and Alice Jessie where he attended Castlemont High School in Oakland, California. He was beloved by both sides of his family and enjoyed growing up with a host of grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends nearby.
Chris had an infectious laugh and a smile that could brighten any dark day. He enjoyed cooking and eating, especially Mexican food. He gleaned his culinary skills from both his parents and could whip up a tasty treat quite quickly. You have never had smothered potatoes until you had his. He liked watching movies of all kind and discussing them as if there’d be a sequel or the storyline could change. He loved to laugh. He liked to dance. He appreciated a nice family gathering. Chris was excited about life. He was a lot of fun. He loved and was loved. At the time of his passing he was in Reno with his friend of many years; his wife Pauline (Williams) Devereaux. Chris will be dearly missed.
