I've knew Charles for a long time, as far back as Hayward. He always had a openness and an ear to listen. Sometimes I called just to say hello, and we would land up talking forever. He was a wonderful friend and a beautiful soul. I will always remember him for his strength, confidence, and encouragement. He will be missed.
I am so sorry to learn of Charles' passing. He was always so encouraging about my career. Our mutual friend would call me when they were together or on the phone and three of us shared many laughs and prayers. I pray that he is at perfect peace and enveloped in God's unchanging love.
My deepest sympathy, many prayers and heart-felt condolences to the family and loved ones of Charles O. Wilson. I met Charles 29 years ago when I was in College. He remained a very Dear Friend to me through the many years of Life's Growth, Joy's, Disappointments and Challenges. He always encouraged me to Dream "Big", complete my college degree, enjoy the years of raising my 3 lovely children (despite the many emotional challenges of unexpectedly becoming a single mother). Charles had a way of finding laughter and joy in "every" situation. He was also very practical regarding planning, creating vision for ones life and having options to control your career. Charles encouraged me to "never" loose site of the power and control that I had over my own life happiness. His loving friendship encouraged me to Dream "Big" in many areas of my life. My own 3 children have now completed college and are on their way to creating their own "Big" Dreams. Thank you Charles, I will carry you and your many years of encouragement and love in my heart. I was fortunate to know Charles during my childhood, as he was married to my oldest sister, Pamela. I remember that he had such a good sense of humor and a love for life. For several years, I would hear about Charles and what he was up to through my sister Pam. It wasn't until 2009 that I actually reconnected with him during a visit to California. In spite of having dealt with his health challenges, his humor continued and I felt so good being able to spend time with him. Following my visit, we kept in touch via email and phone calls. He wanted to give me tips on investing money. He was passionate about this and sowing money into research dollars for cancer with a focus on historically black colleges and universities. Just this past October, as I was preparing to accept an academic leadership position at KU Medical Center in Wichita, KS, Charles congratulated me and offered to send my some roses. What a guy! Even as he was dealing with hospitalizations and outpatient visits, he was still positive, gregarious, and willing to send love my way. I will miss him but I am so comforted by having had a chance to reconnect with him these last couple of years.

WILSON IS STILL MY BROTHER-IN-LAW,HE WAS MARRIED TO MY SISTER PAM,EVEN THOUGH THEY WERE NOT TOGETHER ANYMORE,I STILL CONSIDERED HIM MY BROTHER-IN-LAW,CHARLES MAY BE GONE IN THE FLESH,BUT HE IS STILL IN MY HEART,I WILL MISS HIM VERY MUCH,BUT I WILL SEE HIM AGAIN IN HEAVEN WITH ALMIGHTY GOD.

His candid humor, smiling face, financial wisdom, and loving spirit will never be forgotten. As Charles is missed on earth, his spirit is rejoicing in heaven, and I am all the more blessed to have known and loved such a wonderful person!
My deepest condolences to Charles' mother, Mabel Wilson, and brothers in North Carolina. I never had the occasion to meet you all, however, by having Charles as my husband for six years, I came to know you all in some sense through him. Charles was not only my ex-husband, he was my best friend. We had a good friendship before and during our marriage which endured even after our divorce. During those years, I could not have had a better friend and confidant in him. He was a very smart and wise person who had a true zest for life. He taught me so much especially about the importance to live life to the fullest and how to be a good judge of character. He was always there for me, in good times and bad. In most instances, he offered the best guidance or advice. I will always cherish the times that we shared especially the long phone conversations and the laughter. He always had a way of saying things to make me laugh even if we disagreed about something. I will miss you, Charles. P.S. I am most grateful to Paulette, Charles' executrix, Deborah Bess, his friend and caregiver, and Pat McElroy, a dear friend, all of whom were there for Charles in his last days and throughout.
