Charles William Murney Jr's Obituary
Charles William Murney, Jr May 26, 1931- July 24, 2013 Known by many as Uncle Bill, lover of opera, orchids, his dog Max and to be in the kitchen with skillet and butter in hand, peacefully returned to his maker, Wednesday, July 24, 2013, in his home at the Altenheim Senior residence, age of 82. Born in Glendale, CA, Bill graduated from Brown’s Military Academy in Southern California and spent his life in San Francisco, Mill Valley and his last years in Oakland near family and friends. In his 20’s, Bill bought the former Murney-Codding Printing Company of SF of which he owned for over 30 years. After retirement he worked at the Pacific Sun where he made life long friends. Bill served on nonprofit boards and volunteered for many worthwhile organizations. He was a founding board member of the Oakland Opera Company. Uncle Bill loved to cook and planned and hosted many weddings and fundraiser at his Mill Valley home. He loved art, opera as both a coach and singer, cooking and was a dedicated student of Christian Science. He had a wicked sense of humor and was so much fun to be around! He lived a full life and will be sorely missed. He is survived by sister Sita McFerrin of San Rafael; nephews Lowry McFerrin, wife Linda McFerrin and Jared McFerrin of Oakland; nieces Colleen McFerrin Graceffo of San Francisco and husband Joe Graceffo and Aletha McFerrin Lang and husband Tom Lang of Fresno; great niece Eileen Lang Smith and husband Brandon Smith; great nephew Peter Charles Lang of Fresno; great, great nephews Cody and Jakob Smith; and his sweet dog Max. Mother Rebecca Elizabeth Robinson Murney, father Charles William Murney Sr. and infant sister Laura preceded Bill in death. Celebration of life to be held in the main hall at The Altenheim Senior Housing, 1720 MacArthur, Oakland Saturday August 17, 2013 at 11:00 AM. Remembrances: Aquarius Aquarium Institute or donor’s favorite charity.
