Charles Donald Johnson II's Obituary
In Loving Memory of Charles Donald Johnson II
February 3, 1986 – June 9, 2025
Charles Donald Johnson II, the son of the late Charles Donald I and the late Lendora “Linda” Blacksher Johnson began this earthly life on February 3, 1986. His earthly journey ended far too soon on June 09, 2025 at the age of 39.
Born and raised in the Bay Area, Charles was a proud lifelong resident of Oakland, California. He was a faithful and devoted son, brother, grandson, uncle, nephew and friend. Charles graduated from Castlemont High School in Oakland, California. He dedicated his career to public service, working for the California Department of Transportation, where he was known for his diligence, integrity, and unwavering commitment to improving the lives of others through his work.
Charles was a loving son and very supportive of his mother before and during her illness. Like his mom, he had a big heart and sought to fulfill his mom’s directions to him and the rest of the family to look out for her mother (his grandmother). After his mom’s passing, he would regularly check-in with his grandmother (Jean) and take her shopping and to all her appointments. Charles also spent a lot of time with his late grandfather, Artis Blacksher, who was a significant influence in his life.
Charles was a quiet spirit. He was known as the “gentle giant”. Not just because of his height, but because of his personality and subtle warmth. Regardless of what was going on around him, he was always the calm one. He spoke and acted with wisdom beyond his years.
Charles leaves many family members and friends to cherish his memory: His grandmother, Jean Harris Blacksher (Oakland, CA); His sister and nephew, April Johnson and Gabriel Johnson (Oakland, CA);
His Uncles and Aunts: Art Douglas Blacksher (Oakland, CA); Leonard Harris (Sedonia) of Manchester, Arkansas; Robert Harris (Glenda) of Oakland, California; Harold Harris (Angela) of Manchester, Arkansas; Charles Harris (Jimie) of Little Rock, Arkansas: Anna Sampson of California; Esther Harris of Richmond, California;
Ruby Jewel Blacksher of Texas; Georgia Marie Hill of California. Charles also leaves a host of cousins, other relatives and friends.
Charles will be missed by all who knew and loved his quiet and gentle spirit. We praise God for sharing him with us. We celebrate his homegoing even in the midst of our sadness since we will no longer enjoy his physical presence. We find solace in knowing that he is now at rest. May we carry forward his legacy of service, love, and community.
Though his time with us was too short, the impact he made will endure for generations.
