Charles "Chuck" Alfred Redick's Obituary
Charles (Chuck) Alfred Redick was the first born son to Walter Henry and Mignon Frankaul Redick on December 30, 1934 in the city of Council Bluffs, state of Iowa. The family relocated from Iowa to California; first to the city of Oakland and later established residence in the city of Albany where Chuck and his siblings attended Cordornices Elementary and Albany High Schools. At Albany High, Chuck played Line Backer for the Albany Cougars—He later became a faithful 49er fan and a forty-year season ticket holder.
In 1955 Chuck enlisted in the armed forces and served two years in the US Army (during the Korean War from 1955 to 1957). Shortly after his return to civilian life, Chuck met and married Barbara (BJ). To this union was born two daughters: Mignon Jea’Nae and Tawna Renee’. When the marriage ended in divorce, Chuck obtained sole custody of his daughters and reared them as a single parent until he met and married Gloria, whom the girls fondly refer to as Nana.
In the year 2000 Chuck reunited with the sister of his childhood friends, whom he first met at the age of eight. Together they established a friendship that grew into ties that bound their hearts in Christian love. On June 30, 2005 Chuck and Barb were united in Holy Matrimony to that union along came MIMI. From that point forward they celebrated the best years ever of their lives
For 33 years Chuck worked as a welder and nuclear inspector for the federal government. During his employment in federal service Chuck enrolled in classes at Laney College and pursued courses of study in upholstery. He established an upholstery business out of his home. Upon retirement from federal service, Chuck volunteered to work for the Bay Area Community Service (BACS) agency delivering “Meals on Wheels” to seniors. Later he returned to employment in private industry and worked concurrently as an ATM armored carrier and dispatch operator for FEDEX
While some might say Chuck was a man of many talents close associates and friends will say a man in defiance of the odds: Athletic, health conscious and physically fit for any work-out challenge, Chuck participated in the annual Beta Breaker race, and bragged about his endurance and refusal to accept a courtesy ride when falling far behind in the race across the San Mateo and Dumbarton bridges. If not running throughout the Oakland Hills with his dog, Dusty, you might find Chuck riding his grandchildren, Fred and LaShante, on the back of his Motorcycle.
Chuck enjoyed the many Superbowl parties in his home with family and friends. On the move and on the go, Chuck was always ready to travel and see the world alongside his best friend and love of his life, Mrs. Redick, as he fondly referred to his wife, Barbara.
Chuck was born into the Catholic faith and later recommitted his life to Christ uniting with the Eastbay Church of Religious Science under the ministerial guidance of Reverend Eloise Oliver. Chuck was a devoted believer and follower of Christ.
