Carrie Fluker's Obituary
In Loving Memory of Carrie Dean Fluker
January 12, 1935 – September 7, 2024
Our beloved mother, Carrie Dean Fluker, 89, went to be with the Lord on September 7, 2024, peacefully at home with her family by her side.
Carrie was born on January 12, 1935, in Delhi, Louisiana, to Fannie Lee Jones-Jefferson and William Jefferson, both of whom preceded her in death. She was the eldest of two children, her brother Willie Charles also preceding her in death. Raised by her grandmother, Seana McDade, Carrie often spoke fondly of her.
Carrie loved the Lord and dedicated her life to Jesus Christ at the tender age of 12. She graduated from Ester Toombs High School in Delhi, Louisiana. Soon after, with a determined spirit and dreams of a new life, she moved to Oakland, California, at the age of 19. Not long after her move, she met and married James K. Fluker. She raised five children: Gregory Fluker, Denise Lee, Patricia Fluker, Geraldine Fluker, and James Fluker Jr.
Carrie’s love for Christ radiated in her care and devotion to her family. She poured her heart and soul into her children, offering them unwavering love, support, and wisdom. Her presence was a source of comfort, security, and joy. She filled her home with the warmth of homemade sugar cookies and baked special cakes for each of her children’s birthdays. Her love was nurturing, her discipline was firm, and her spirit was always present, often expressed in the hymns she sang around the house, especially her favorite, What a Friend We Have in Jesus.
Carrie was an avid reader, enjoyed going to the movies, attending live outdoor concerts, and traveling with her family. Her travels included trips to Los Angeles, San Diego, Hawaii (twice), and her favorite destination, the Bahamas.
She will be dearly missed by her seven grandchildren: Akilah, Safiya, Amos, Omari, Marcello, Anthony, and Celeste; three great-grandchildren: Desmond, Amora, and Josiah; and her sons-in-law: Amos Lee, Chance Allen, and Marshon Lee. She also leaves behind her dear cousin, Betty McDade, and a host of extended family and friends.
