Carolyn Ann Lee's Obituary
Carolyn A. Lee was born Carolyn A. Smith on September 6, 1938 at Charity Hospital in Shreveport Louisiana. She was the first child of Margaret Daniels Smith and Edward Leon Smith. She was baptized at Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament Church and school and attended school there until she graduated from the 8th grade. She graduated from Booker T. Washington High School in 1955 having participated in choir where she played the piano and was in the marching band where she played the glockenspiel. She also used her musical talent to play the piano in the church and also for weddings and funerals. She recorded a record when she was 5 years old. She loved music, books, swimming, and NASA’s Space Shuttle Program.
Carolyn spent one year at Southern University studying music and the left to join the United States Air Force where she met and married Gorman W. Lee Jr. and was honorably discharged. They had 2 children Jacquelyn M. Lee in 1958 and Ronald E. Lee in 1960. Together they traveled to Okinawa and across the United States as Gorman was transferred. Finally she settled in the San Francisco Bay Area where she had lots of family and made lots of friends. She also continued her education and graduated from St. Mary’s College in Oakland with a Bachelor of Arts in Health Services Administration in 1983. She had a brother Ronny L. Smith (deceased). In her later years she found a special companion in Mr. Harmon Brown.
Carolyn’s memory will be cherished by children Ronnie Lee and Jackie Skelton, and their siblings Debra Myers, Gorman Lee III and Alvin Lee, sisters Jessie O. Gibson, her husband Edwin Gibson and Janette M. Smith, grandchildren Kimberly, Michael, Christopher, and Tiana and great grandsons Zyan and True Lee, and a host of family: Smiths, Daniels, and Lees, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
