Cal J. Moore's Obituary
Cal J. Moore was born February 2, 1937 to Bertha Lee McDuffie Moore and Feddie Moore. He was proceeded in death by his parents. Cal was baptized at First Baptist Church, 620 Cordell in El Dorado, AR at an early age. He was very active in Sunday School. He graduated from Booker T. Washington High School in 1956. He was the quarterback of the school's football team, leading center-forward of the basketball team and a member of the choir and bank. He received an athletic scholarship to the University of Denver where he received his B.S. degree. He continued his graduate studies at Cal State in Los Angeles for his M.S. degree and later the University of California at Berkeley for his Ph. D. degree in Education.He started his teaching career in Flint, MI. After one year, he moved to Northern California and began working for the Berkeley school district as a physical education instructor. While working at Kings Junior High, he coached a winning basketball team.He also taught in Korea for a year. Cal retired from teaching in the mid 90's. He is fondly remembered by several students.Cal has always loved sports. After football, he continued to be athletic and developed a love for tennis. Cal's other hobbies included staying physically fit (jogging up the Berkeley Hills and participating in the Bay to Breakers), listening to jazz and gardening. Cal is survived by seven siblings: Dr. Lee J. Moore of Chicago, IL; Dr. Ray Moore (Frenchie) of Yuma, AZ; Dorse D. Moore of Carson, CA; Bennie F. Moore Clark of St. Louis, MO; Shirley Moore Peralta, Fred Moore and Athaline Moore of El Dorado, AR; three aunts: Jean McDuffie of Carson, CA; Myrtle Moore, Wesson, AR; Vanita Ellison and Mattie Baldwin of El Dorado; two nephews: Lee Moore of Washington DC and Kelley Mallet of El Dorado; four nieces: Kim Mallet, Washington DC; Valerie Moore Jones, Chicago, IL, Renee Moore Crum and Dana Moore Szilagyi (Robert) of Tucson, AZ; and a host of other cousins and friends.
