Brian Chu's Obituary
Brian Wing Chu died peacefully at home at the age of 75. Born and raised in Oakland, Brian graduated from Fremont high and attended Merritt College, Ohlone College and University of San Francisco. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam era and later married in 1973 and settled down in the bay area. Brian resided in Hayward, Vallejo, Newark, Pleasant Hill and Murphys California during his lifetime and made countless friends along the way. He held careers as a phone installer, Realtor, IT rep and later in life found joy as an instructor in the Japanese art of Taiko drums. He was a founding member of Wadaiko Newark. Brian was an avid bay area sports fan, rock music lover, camper, angler, student of history, trivia spouter, storyteller, crossword puzzler, dog lover, Union advocate, Veterans advocate, round of drinks buyer and all around good time guy who found joy in being surrounded by and lifting others. Brian is survived by the mother of his children, Jeanne Chu, daughters Christine Chu and Jenni Felter, Grandchildren Frankie and Nash Felter, Sister Bonnie Worthington, Nephew Scott Worthington and beloved extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by Father Benjamin Chu, Mother and Stepfather Dora and Joseph Yee. Brian was a generous contributor to causes such as St. Judes, Wounded Warrior Project and Humane Society. Charitable donations may be made in Brian’s honor in lieu of flowers. Brian will be inurned at Chapel of the Chimes, Oakland.
