Bouabane Sayarad's Obituary
Beloved mother and grandmother Bouabane Sayarad passed away at her home in Oakland, California on August 19th, 2013.
Bouabane was born on August 15, 1945 in Vientiane, Laos. She moved to Oakland, California in 1976 with her family. As the family settled in, Bouabane became a pre-school teacher and worked as much for seventeen years.
Bouabane was an integral member of the greater Loa diaspora in the United States and subsequently part of several Lao American Community Associations. She made herself ever present at various societal functions, working with passion and endless enthusiasm to preserve, educate and promote her culture. Her dedication and volunteer activities accorded her a position of respect amongst her peers; this was recognized fully when the California State gave her an award for her community efforts in 2009.
She lived a family life that encompassed all the wonderful qualities of being the matriarch of a large family. She saw her nine children grow and all have successful careers. She was never happier than when she was surrounded by her grandchildren. Family gathering were frequent and each birthday, Thanksgiving, Christmas or special occasion was never complete without having them to her marvelous oxtail soup.
She loved gardening and spent several hours a weeks, keeping her immaculate garden blooming with much admiration from her neighbors. Her many orchids flowered every year; she was very proud of that and loved showing them to her friends and neighbors.
Bouabane lived a life to the fullest. From being a benevolent grandmother to a social butterfly she herself with grace, dignity, style and commanded the loved and respect of all those whom had privilege and honor to be part of her life.
Bouabane is survived by her eight children, nineteen grandchildren, and four sisters.
