OBITUARY ANNOUNCEMENT FOR BLANCHE BLACK SMITH
To Family and Friends
Blanche passed peacefully from this life at home in El Cerrito, CA on Tuesday, September 5th, 2017 at the age of 95.
Blanche is survived by her son, Rudolph B. Smith, grandchildren, Roshawn and Tashara Smith, their spouses, three great grandchildren, Nieces and Nephew Carol, Barbara and Harold Bruce as well as other relatives and friends.
Blanche is preceded in death by her husband of over 50 years Rudolph Smith, her son Arnold Smith and sister Betty Bruce.
Blanche was born on October 12th, 1922 in Omaha, Nebraska to parents Blanche and Arnold Black. Her father Arnold a Canadian native and mother decided to move to California and settled in Oakland, California.
After graduating from Union High School in Oakland, she married her high school sweetheart, Rudolph Smith who was pursuing a degree in Pharmacy. Later the couple and their two sons moved to El Cerrito, California.
While mainly a devoted mother and wife, she often assisted her husband at Rumsfield Pharmacy in Berkeley, California.
Blanche was a devout member for many years of Down’s Memorial United Methodist Church in Emeryville, California. In addition to her church duties, she was a member of the Women’s Club for Children’s Hospital of Oakland, California. In addition to supporting numerous charities she often volunteered for worthy causes and attended many fundraisers as well.
After her children moved away and her husband retired, they enjoyed world traveling together and with close friends. As well as enjoying her children and husband, she loved her dogs and later in life her parakeets.
Blanche will be missed by countless of relatives, friends and their families.
