Betty C Solomon's Obituary
Betty C. Solomon 1921-2012 Betty was a lover of travel, arts, and her family. She spent the most of her life in the Chicago area and her professional career in printing. Betty was born in 1921 to Jacob and Ida (Miller) Colen and grew up in Oak Park, Ill. She attended the University of Wisconsin before marrying the late Marshall Solomon (1920-1996) in 1943. Their children, Paul and Barbara were born in Chicago and the family later lived in Skokie, Ill. and then Glenview, Ill. Betty and Marshall shared a love of travel, visiting much of the U.S., Canada, Mexico and Europe plus Israel, Africa, Asia and the Galápagos. They volunteered at Chicago Botanic Garden and supported Lyric Opera of Chicago. Betty spent 25 years with Schramm Harris Printing, becoming vice-president and later owner. She retired to Naples, Fla. in 2000 and then moved to Mill Valley, Calif. in 2009, living at The Redwoods, where her daughter Barbara is the CEO. Betty passed at age 90 at Kaiser Hospital in Oakland on January 13. She is survived by her children, Paul Solomon of Oregon and Barbara Solomon of San Francisco and their spouses, plus three grandchildren, and a great grandson. The family held a private celebration of Betty’s life on January 16. Donations can be made to The Redwoods in Mill Valley or to the Chicago Botanic Garden.
