Berlin Chang's Obituary
Berlin Chang, of Dublin, California, passed away peacefully on June 22, 2018. He was 84 years old.
He was born in Shanghai, China on October 31, 1933, the son of James Chang and Elsbeth Langner Chang and younger brother of Nina Djeng.
Berlin Chang graduated with a Masters Degree at the top 1% of his class at Nanjing University.
He was married to Anna Hong-Ying Chang on May 20, 1973 and recently celebrated 45 years of marriage at home with his family.
Berlin Chang worked as an Assistant Professor of Zoology and Biology in China in the 1950’s. He moved to Hong Kong in the 1960’s and owned a garment factory where he would later meet his wife, Anna. Berlin immigrated to the United States and resided in California, where he started a family with Anna. He loved the Bay Area and worked at The Franciscan and in the wine industry until he retired.
He had a passion for basketball (particularly the Golden State Warriors), nature, reptiles and zoology, food and wine, and family. He had a great sense of humor and was a gifted storyteller.
He was survived by his wife Anna Hong-Ying Chang; daughters Elita Chang, Wendy Yee, Monica Ng, and Stella Chang; his sons-in-law Owen Yee and Anthony Ng; his grandchildren Jonathan Chang, Kailey Chang, Nathaniel Yee, Madeleine Yee, Phoenix Ng, Autumn Ng, and Violet Ng.
He was a loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather and will be deeply missed by all.
A funeral service will be held at 3:00 pm, Sunday July 1st, 2018 at Chapel of the Chimes in Oakland California, 4499 Piedmont Avenue.
