Benjamin Franklin Young's Obituary
BENJAMIN F. YOUNG
Resident of Oakland
Ben Young was born on January 17, 1929 and passed away on
December lOth, 2013. He was the 6th child of 11 born to Mary and Charles
Young in Chicago, Illinois. He moved to Oakland with the family in 1945 and
graduated from Oakland High. He worked in the family business until he
was drafted into the U.S. Army where he served in the Korean War. He later
worked for Lucky Stores where he was a member of Butchers Union Local120
which later became Local 5. He has been a member of the Wah Sung Service
Club as well as the Local 5 Butchers Retirees Club. He was a devoted volunteer
at the Berkeley Chinese Community Church’s Senior Center since his retirement
from Lucky Stores in 1997.
Ben was pre-deceased by his wife, Lillian F. Young. He is survived by his
siblings, Eleanor, George, Sally, Lil, David, Vicky, and Gerry as well as his dear
friend, Lillie Tong.
A celebration of Ben’s life will be held on December 27, 2013 at 10 a.m.
at the Chapel of the Chimes on Piedmont Avenue in Oakland.
